Papel Amate Wall Art with Nuju Spirit Design

For centuries the artisans of Sierra Norte, Mexico have been making paper fiber (papel amate) and creating intricate design.  The paper design in the center was cut entirely by hand freeform and depicts the sun surrounded by Nuju spirits. The depiction of the spirits in a cutout paper form dates back to the time of the Mesoamerican Aztecs.
