EMBROIDERY
from the workshops of traditionally skilled artisans
Traditional Portuguese Embroidery
Passed down from many generations, the skill of Portuguese embroiderers is world renowned. Centered around the village of Guimarares, artisans there create wondrous pieces that are dimensional and intricate. Often borders are created using the drawn threads of the linen fabric, making a fine finish.

Otomi Embroidery
The artistry of the Otomi women is expressed in their vibrantly colored embroidery called tenangos. The work, with its intricate and elaborate stitches, dates back to the Aztec Meso-American era. Believed to originate from prehistoric wall paintings, these pieces with their floral and animal motifs symbolize man living in harmony with the natural world.
Today, tenangos, with their primitive yet sophisticated designs, are sought by discerning collectors and designers. Of note, Hermes, the fashion design house, used Otomi designs in a line of couture silk scarves and handkerchiefs.
